I resisted for ages, but my nephews kept bugging me, so I finally gave in.

What a blast, and what an easy way to keep up with everybody. Of course it could never take the place of the Workamper Forums for discussing RV stuff, but for just quick notes, it's great.

Newly retired and loving it,
Janice

This is our first extended trip away from home, and the kids were having a meltdown, couldn't really believe we were gonna just go off, and leave them, yada, yada.

With the facebook, they keep up, plus a lot of our friends from home are on there, so it's much easier to just post a note, about where you are and what's going on than having to email everyone separately.

Life is great, and getting better. . .
Janice

Something to consider.
We were introduce to the web cam by my son-in-law.
We have a laptop with a web cam built into it and he said to go on Skype.com and get hooked up that way. It is free and is a real blast. You might want to check it out if you haven't already.
I am going to buy a web cam for my mother and she is real excited about it.

Don't want to dampen any spirits, but if you are using facebook and sites like it make sure your computer has good protection loaded on it. Those sites are prime targets for trojans, spyware, and virus problems. A good anti virus, anti spam, and registry cleaner usually keep the computer working and in good condition.

Happy RVing.

Hi Janice,

We're on Facebooks also. And we have one friend, in particular, who loves to "play" all the IQ challenges - and games. Of course, I don't want to be left out .... the latest is an Easter Egg Hunt :P

Hey Priscilla, I guess I always just thought it was for "kids", ya know, anyone under 30, but I am amazed to find several of my friends and acquaintances on there, and it has been nice to chat. Even groups of High School Alumni, lots of interesting stuff.

JJ, of course hubby has all the spyware gadgets and so on installed, see, I don't know the lingo, but I know the drill. Log out, shut down, etc, etc. . .go on the history page, delete all the websites, get rid of the cookies (whatever that means), actually only takes a few seconds, makes me feel better.

Have fun ya'll,

:P We too, got involved in facebook via our kids. I keep bugging them to send me pics, and although they don't seem to have the time to send them to me personnally, they do always seem to get them on Facebook. (One of them on Myspace!) Since I will take pics of my kids and grandkids any way I can get them, we signed up. Now, being involved with the local American Legion Auxiliary, have made friends with many more of them, keeping in touch with them on this network as well. This has become a sight that I visit daily, as well as here, of course.

We have heard of the viruses passed through here, however, we normally hear about them through our contacts who pass on the warnings and tell us what to watch out for. We have not had any problems so far, but I have been able to hijack some really great pics!

I agree with JJ on this. Last night on the news they had a story about how easy it is to get a virus. The reporter said you will receive a message saying you have a message from one of your friends. When to click on the button to get your message you are ask to down load the update to Flashplayer to receive your message. Since the message is from one of your friends you click on the button to download flashplayer and then it's all over for you. The worm is now in control. ( If I have one of these steps wrong sorry but it is something like this.)

I backed out of Face Book last week for other reasons. Rich

I was using MYRVSPACE.com, and loved it. Haven't been there recently, though. Also, NationwideRVING.com is similar, but that site is having some issues.

Our son set us up on facebook, so we can be connected to the kids and grandkids. He also got us on Yearbook.com. Which we can connect with friends and family, there too.
You do need a good anti virus etc with these pages but so far we have been ok.

Well all of the kids are on there, and lots of the nieces and nephews, most of the brothers and sisters, and some of the aunts and cousins, so instead of sending emails to all of them we just communicate there. It's great. . .like a big ole family reunion almost every day. We are getting a kick out of it. . .

Good luck and I hope this works.

I am getting in contact with some of my old High School Classmates on Facebook. Most of it doesn't really interest me (the games and trivia, etc.), I liked My Space better in some respects. But it is good for keeping in touch.
Most of us probably don't need to be too concerned about it, but we should keep in mind that many employers these days are checking out social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace to aid in their hiring decisions. I'm sure they look at our blogs, too if they know about them.

HermitKrab makes a good point. It is easy for most anyone to do a Google search of your name. What would they find? It's a good idea to check now and then.
