Well,I have read thru about half the recipes so far and had to stop as I have gained 10lbs just reading.
Now for those of you that ( like myself ) enjoy ham/bean soup or any variation with beans, the next time your driving across I-70 from Kansas into Colorado heading west, you'll notice a farm elevator there that has painted on the side "Life is a crock of beans". If you get off at the next exit and come back there ( plenty of large rig parking ) you will find that they sell bulk beans from 5 to 100 lbs and bag them for you as well.
I must have driven by there 100 times over the years before I finally stopped in one day and got 10 different kinds of beans, and lots of recipe booklets,a friendly smile and even 100lbs of potatoes from a farmer as it was going to freeze that night and he had no room for them.
Heck of a stop I made that day and learned that the beans have a shelf life of 10 years as well. I ate potatoe salad and bean soup for months after that. But thought I'd mention it,hope it was ok to mention the place.

With tomatoes coming out of my ears, given freely by all my neighbors, I dug out the good old Gazpacho recipe and thought I'd share it.
6 large ripe tomatoes, coursely chopped 2 cucumbers, peeled and chopped 1 green pepper, seeded and chopped 1 med. red onion, peeled and chopped 6 cloves garlic minced 2 cups tomato juice 1 cup red wine vinegar 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil Splash of tobasco, salt and pepper to taste. Now I just mix this and chill it as I prefer it chunky, but the recipe actually calls for it all to be blended for 2-3 minutes on high then strained prior to chilling. I also garnish mine with garlic croutons and a dab of sour cream, sprinkled with parsley flakes.

Last night we went to the Cowboy Dinner Tree Steak House in Silver Lake, OR for dinner at 7 pm. What a meal they put out. A 32 oz steak, for each of us, enough for us to bring home and have 3 or 4 meals from. You start out with a salad with ranch dressing or honey mustard dressing. Then comes the bowl of cowboy beans or like last night barley beef soup, that is what we had. The food is served family style. Then comes the steak with a big baked potato and a dozen warm rolls with butter. After all that you get a desert. last night we ask for Apple Marion berry crisp when we called for reservations so that is what everybody got. The owner makes the desert her self every day. When we were there last week on Thursday our waitress told us to ask for the crisp when we called this week. Boy was it good! So we walked out last night with an extra dozen rolls and two bags with the steak and one baked potato. We have lots of rolls for the coming week and also our meals for the week. Fajitas and beef stroganoff Don

I have read all the recipes. WOW! You are all such good cooks and so funny too. I have two quick crock put recipes. I also use liners.
The simple Pot Roast and Vegetables. Put it all in pot, add one can of beef broth and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Meat is tender and you have some meat juice to pour over meat.
Also Picante Chicken Breasts. Place chicken in crock pot and cover with medium size jar Picante sauce. Cook on low for 6 hours. I serve it with spanish rice.
Happy eating!

Well we just got back from our yearly trip to Kipp Park on the Missouri River in central Montana. We spend about 2 wks there camping and watching the Elk who come to a game reserve every year to mate. There was about 300 head there this year down from previous years, have been as many as 700 head, probably due to the mild fall. The daughter and husband from Lewistown spent 10 days with us and one daughter and grandson from Shepherd spent weekends. Had our Chuckwagon there to play with and enjoy. We do all our cooking and baking outside over wood fire in dutch ovens and fry pans. We had a blackberry cobbler, apple crisp and a cake for desert, for breakfast we had sourdoug hot cakes, baking powder biscuts and gravy, sourdough cinnamon buns and the eggs and meat to go with them. For the afternoon meal we had ham and beans with corn bread, beef stew with dumplings, country fried steak with smashed spuds and white gravy and a pork loin with sweet spuds. Had fresh corn on the cob several times that was grilled in the husk, grilled fresh aspargus and fryed parsnips. This is some off the hight lights, to many other good things to eat to mention here. The weather was great, abit buggy though.

Quick and Tasty Fried Chicken...
Wash chicken pieces .... drop a couple pieces at a time in a large ziploc bag containing House of Autry Chicken Breader and shake till covered. Drop in 375 degree oil in deep fryer.. cook a few minutes and depending on how fast it's cooking lower to 350. Takes about 10-12 minutes till golden brown. Drain on paper towels... Yum Yum !!!

This sounds weird (especially the orange French salad dressing), but I promise you it is absolutely fantastic! The gravy is unbelievably good on mashed potatoes! I love this recipe, and have made it several times since it first appeared on this forum. . .I have the pork thawing in preparation for lunch tomorrow. . .can't wait!
