I have recently retired from truck driving and need to get back on the road! I plan on RVing full time and Workamping at least 9 months a year starting Spring of 2010. I purchased a 2008 Chevy Silverado 3500HD to pull my 37' fifth wheel. The fifth wheel is huge compared to the cab of a big rig and since I have been 'homeless' for the last 8 years, it is wonderful to have a home. I have taken one trip to a nearby camp ground and I did not want to leave.

I plan on limiting my first year to California but after 2010, the entire USA will be my home. I have wondered about which state is the best for declaring residency and would appeciate input and ideas from full timers.

I am new at posting on the computer and hope to become more relaxed with time. Barbara

Hi Barbara !
Welcome ! We hope you enjoy workamping. This topic has been discussed many, many times. Please use the Search button - you find lots of information. We have changed our state registrations, etc. to Texas. Have you considered joining Escapees ??
Best Wishes !

Welcome to the world of full time RVing, I think you will find it much more relaxed on the road as an RVer than as a trucker. No time constraints or dock times to meet makes a lot of difference in traveling this way.

We chose Texas as our home of record for many reasons, and you can search for theh Escapees RV club and get info on their mail service. We have been very happy with them for over five years. There are other states that have full timer services, Florida, South Dakota, Louisiana, and probably more, but Texas just worked best for us. We checked out several others before making our decision.

You can search for RV mail service and probably find some, or like suggested search here on the forums and find loads of info from different people.

Here is a search I did that might help you: http://forums.workamper.com/search.php?keywords=mail%2C+domicile&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=topics&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Happy RVing.

8-)

Welcome!

Choosing your domicile should depend on many factors and depend on your personal situation. Choosing Your RV Home Base is a good reference and is available at the Workamper News Store.

For me, both Texas (for many years) and more recently South Dakota have been good choices.

I too will be joining the ranks of the full timers as soon as my home sells. I'm already retired and just waiting on a signed contract.

Frustration!!!!!

Thanks CJ. It has been listed for six months, so quick isn't happening, but it only takes one.
