[Waving frantically to Jaimie - Hi Jaimie, I really like the new format. I'm still trying to find my way around but it's a major improvement. Okay, off to post my introduction.] Hello everyone! I'm an almost 60 y/o widow who loves motorcycles almost as much as traveling. I spent the year after my husband passed, traveling the country solo on my Harley. It was my sanity ride... Since then I have decided to return to full-timing (we did it for 2 years while still working, his cancer changed that but it brought motorcycles into our lives). I'm almost there....last day of work over, rescued a pup for company, sold my Harley and got a BMW (300# lighter and a dual-sport so I can better handle dirt, gravel, etc). Today I put a deposit on my new home, The Lily Pad. You can see some photos here. I had originally planned to workamp at least half the year but now plan to boondock more and work less. There is so much beautiful country out there and I want to enjoy it.

So glad to see more and more women are taking chances and RVing alone. It's a wonderful experience but I don't think the "Traveler's World" has open arms where we are concerned. I have had many wonderful experiences, met some great people, had to deal with some a#*#@*&$, and stand up for myself as a workamper. You also learn to fix, repair, rig and make-do. It's addictive and perfect for a creative gal with survivor instincts. I sleep with my doors and windows open and plan on bringing along my air mattress to sleep under my awning. I've never felt safer but it takes a little planning ahead and having Plan A & B. This website is a wonderful way to find tips and tricks for RVing alone.

Hi there-- Another solo woman RVer. I've been full-time RVing on and off for 27 years and plan to do this until I have to hang up the keys. I hope that will be many years from now.
Glad to see the new forum. Good job, everyone!

Hello Solo ladies! I'm glad to see there are several adventursome women! When I went cross country from '96-'98 solo on my harley everyone thought I was crazy! Now that I am researching fulltiming with a goal of spring they think I've gone around the bend. What advise do you have? I'm looking for a class C but almost bought a class A this weekend. I want a used motorhome that I can pay for with cash vs financing. I am an avid quilter, knitter, woodcarver, etc... The class A had lots of storage for my hobbies.

Nice to see some more ladies checking in. I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with their family/kids. Everyone asks me what mine think and I tell them that not only are the all very supportive but that my youngest daughter was the one suggesting it to me. LOL!
I remember some of the tips passed along to me last year when I first started researching going full-time. Rather than just getting the big dog dish & heavy leash, I opted to rescue a 11# 8 month old pup who is very protective of me & our home....at least he does make some noise. I also kept my husband's Harley boots and they will sit outside my door at night. The toughest was giving up our engraved sign with our names....while I will have vanity tags on the RV, trailer and motorcycle, nothing will have my real first or last name.

Froggi, My kids keep asking me why I can't just be "normal" lol....I'm not sure what that is. Ever since I started researching the RV lifestyle, I can't seem to think about anything else. I just love to travel and explore new places and meet new people. If I'm working full time and paying rent, I have a hard time finding time and money to do that. The workamping just seems like the perfect solution. I really hope all you gals out there going it alone will share your experiences with us good and bad. It really helps to know what to expect and what to watch out for....

Two more here; my twin "peddlin paws" and I have joined up together and are in the planning stages of and on into the preparation stage trying to get rid of everything we don't need in the RV........Are the jobs few and far between for singles? And is it harder being we're not as strong......hahahah.......... than the male counterparts? We're hoping that if we join up together we'll be more .......... you know two brains are better than one..........

Hi everyone, I also enjoy the solo workamping lifestyle. I had/am having a hard time adjusting to the kids going back to school at the stick house . But, im close only 20 miles from them . I didnt start off single but, over the course of the season im finding myself there . My husband has no interest in my lifestlye and I have none in his . Oh life if full of bends , my life is down the road somewhere. I never knew I would enjoy being alone so much . Everyone that knows me finds it very odd for me to have made such a change in my life , I try to tell them your never given a promise of tomarrow so I want to spend my retirement years now . At 36 they just shake there head . They should be so lucky as to have that force that drives from within us rvers to move on and find new places. The kids so with me when they can. And I stay close to them while they are in school . We still have stick house but, my heart and home is on the road.

I'm about to be a solo woman on the road as well. This isn't widely known and I'd not be saying it here if I hadn't discovered this part of the forum and realized that there are other women out there. I assumed it would be mostly men. I'm scared to death - my one son thinks it's cool, the other one is worried sick and thinks I've lost my mind. I've been RVing full time with my husband since November but I just don't want to be in this relationship any longer but I don't want to give up the road either. So - we're selling the Teton, he's keeping the truck, and I'm getting a small Class A or Class C. I plan on getting a handgun. I have three dogs - one German Pinscher that makes me feel safe even though she's never growled at a human being. I have a little chihuahua/terrier mix that's the guard dog. And one dog I'm sorry to say, is going to have to go. Not enough room and not enough time to give her the attention she needs. She's a miniature sheltie that I rescued from a puppy mill. She's not much better after 2 years and I don't think the road is what she needs. She needs a stable environment with a person that can spend a lot of time with her.
I don't see a lot of offers for single workampers out there - that's worrisome as well. I think I may stick to just finding a job and paying for my space or dry camping and not working much. Got to get rid of a good bit of stuff. Not sure where my air compressor and carving stuff will fit into a Class C!!!

Froggi -
I've been looking at RV's 2002 or newer. Does buying a 1999 cause you any concern??? I figured newer the better - less mechanical trouble and all. It's a beautiful unit from the photos . . . . how do you know that it's in good shape??
Thanks!@

I have a 1985 Fleetwood Southwind 27' class A. She needed tailpipes, brakes, a tuneup and the alternator fixed (a loose wire), but the tires are new, she's in good shape and is now a pleasure to drive. Her age may prevent me from being hired as a workamper in parks that require 10 years old or newer, but she looks fine and runs well.
Be sure to have a mechanic check out the engine and other non-RV related areas like drive train, electrical system like lights, batteries, tires, etc.
