What I was told with the Nook, you can lend your books to another person that has a Nook, for 14 days free. That way you can exchange books back and forth and not have to buy the book. Also on the B&N website you can download e-reader software to your computer for free also. The B&N website also does a comparison between Nook and Kindle showing what they offer and what the Kindle doesn't. Not saing anything negative about the Kindle, this is my first purchase of an e-reader and wanted something I would feel comfortable with.

Received my Nook just before Christmas. So far I really like it a lot. Never having an e-reader of any kind, I can't compare it to others. Evidently a lot of people are wanting one, I noticed on the Barnes & Noble site that they are not shipping any now until Feb. 1.

I had a poll at my website and found out that you can get apps for the ipHONE and iTouch to read both Kindle and Nook books on them.

Hi Jaimie, if you go to Barnes & Noble website you can download the reader software for free to your iphone, Blackberry, PC or Mac. Its great that they let you do that, of course they want you to buy e-books . Some books are cheaper at Amazaon, but B&N seems pretty reasonable also.

Thanks for sharing that information. That will be useful for iPHone and iTouch owners- Blackberries too.

Okay, I am bringing this back to the top. My DW wants an e-reader like the Kindle Nook or Sony. However we are worried that the brand new releases she reads are not available and/or are very expensive. We would appreciate any new comments. We were at Boarders the other day and they have a the Sony on display. Does anyone now have experience with these? Thanks!

Okay question?????, when you are reading a book on these fancy new devices: Does it use up internet time? Does the download use up much internet time?, such as music and movie downloads do. How can the makers determine it is time to delete a book you are reading?, I:E:, the two week loan. Why would you buy something that others have that much control over?, because What is keeping them from deleting books you have bought instead of the ones on loan? or, Do they delete books you have purchased? OKAY, OKAY so it was more than one, live with it. LOL
I do most of my reading on line, and at times have been just a bit lazy and clicked on the "LISTEN" button to hear someone else read to me. That eats up internet time very quickly, and even though it never put us over the top on our usage, it has placed us close to that threshold.
All that being said, I do not read a lot of books unless they are factual and about something that really happened. I think we have enough fiction in our everyday living to put me over the top of that line. I sometimes write "There I Wuz" stories for family about our escapades while full timing, and many look forward to the next story while some keep looking for the ambulance to haul me away to some place that will keep me safely away from the public at large. Our grandsons that helped me move our STUFF to AZ last summer seem to really love and look forward to those stories. I think my telling them a few of them while they were with us peaked their interest just a bit. While those stories all contain a bit of fiction, they all are about real life incidents. My DW reads a lot, but amazingly enough she has switched to a lot of true stories from what she used to read, and I had nothing to do with it, other than to NAG her about all that fiction. Not really, I never tell her how to fix her hair or what to read, that is a personal choice.
Just some more "dumb" questions I am sure, but inquiring minds really want to know, or at least mine does.
Happy RVing.

I wrote in my previous post I bought the "Nook" from Barnes & Noble. I'm still learning about e-readers, but will be happy to relate what I have learned so far. The Nook and Sony reader use e-pub format and I think Adobe Digital or PDF Software. You can download books to either of these readers using either of these formats. There are several web sites you can purchase e-books from and some of the e-books are free. Some of the sites I use are: inkmesh.com, kobobooks.com, ebookmall.com and of course barnesandnoble.com
Regarding the Kindle from Amazon - you can only purchase books from Amazon because they formatted their software so you can only buy from them. Do compare the Sony reader to Nook. You can store approx. 1500 books on Nook and you can also install a memory card to hold even more. I'm not sure I'd ever have 1500 books, but you never know. Nook also has a feature where you can lend certain books to others that use the same reader software.
The prices of the e-books vary. On the B & N forums there are heated debates about Amazon prices cheaper tha B & N, etc. etc. Some of the e-books from B & N are $9.99 and higher and the same exact books might be cheaper from inkmesh or kobo or the others. If you go to the inkmesh site it lists what books from what sites are available along with the comparison pricing. I use this site a lot and you can purchase the book from the company that has the best price.
Also new the Barnes & Noble Nook can now be purchased at Best Buy and Kindle is supposed to be available at Target. The reader software for Nook can also be downloaded free to your computer, iphone/ipod/ipad or blackberry. If you go to the B & N site you can find out more. I did a lot research before buying ours and found the Nook did not limit me from buying from B & N only like Amazon does for the Kindle.
You download books via built in wi-fi in the reader. Again go to B&N site, click on the Nook tab and all the technical stuff is listed there. I'm sorry I really don't understand all the technical stuff. I am not advocating or promoting B & N, just relating what works best for me. I like to read and I usually read 3 or 4 books a month and found this is the cheapest way for me and not have to worry about storing books or giving them away. Hope this helps and doesn't sound too confusing. If I can answer any more questions, please feel free to ask.

You can upload pdf files from your computer onto a Kindle. Also, you can do the same with many free books. I do like the feature on Nook where you can share. The Kindle is comfortable to use and well-lit.

And now they have the iPad. For the same money as a Kindle, you can read books, surf the web, look at pictures, answer emails, play games........all in glorious color!! Debbie and I are getting one at the end of the month when they start shipping the 3G model. Joe
