Ron and Kathy,

I say TAKE THE BIKE! As Jamie said " you'll need to run that mh once a month". Plenty of time for big stuff at the grocery store.

We are trying to figure out a different problem....2 large motorcycles and what is the best way to trailer them BEHIND a 5th wheel. We may end up not taking them at all..but if there is a way to do it safely, then they are going.

We won't be fulltiming on the road for another year and a half, so plenty of time to find a way to make it work.

Since you have a year to go. If your serious about taking two bikes; ditch the pick-up and purchase a used HDT. That's about as safe as you can get!

Dreamweavers,
Sorry to confuse but the central point of my post was the bike it self not the method of conveyance. The bike takes care of almost all needs at a fraction of the cost of my truck. I ride in rain and the bike will tote what ever i need. If you want to take the scooter as a primary vehicle then do it. Rain gear works great and we don't do snow, so all's well.

Sorry for the confusion,
TAZ

Second thoughts,

We are rethinking this after all. My wife says she likes the bike but would wrather have an auto for reasons of all around transportation. She thinks if we have to find a job out side a campground and its raining she is not to thrilled to drive a bike in the rain to work.

Also she likes the idea of being able to do more shopping when ever she wants over once in a while moving the motorhome.

So I think I am going to sell the bike, set the auto up for towing and just wait till we can get the pt cruiser ready.

thanks
Ron and Kathy

We often use our motorcycle as a toad vehicle. There are about as many advantages as there are disadvantages using a motorcycle for transportation. A lot depends on your metal. I know a few people who travel this way several months out of the year. We have enclosed trailers for our motorcycle and the car with the bike. On longer trips we take both to ensure that we have what we need to have fun. That's the key, if you can have fun on your motorcycle no matter what, things will always work out, somehow. If something unusual comes up you can rent a car. Many campgounds now offer that service on site. Another good back up plan is to join one of the RV clubs that have a program where it's members offer transportation assistance to others members in need. Find a way to make it work for you and be happy. Please remember that if Mama is not happy with just the motorcycle you may be in for some tuff times.
