We are two weeks away from finishing our first workamping job. It's been six months since we pulled into the park. Weather is turning cool and we are heating up to hitch up and head down the road. Talking to others here in the park and we all agree the closer it gets to time to go the more hitch itch seems to set in. Guess we are like the kids in school when it's nearing the end of their school year.

We are thinking six months is too long for one place. We have taken side trips and took the motor home to Crater Lake. What do you all think about the time commitment and itch itch in general???

See you on the road,
GMC

Terrible thing, Hitch Itch! I used to get it at the 4 month mark! However, maybe it's this area, could be the owners. We will leave our RV at our current park, travel overseas and visit with Mum-In-Law until end of February, then return to Workamp for another season at this park. First time in almost 11 years!

For us, hitch-itch comes very quickly, usually within a few weeks but the good news is we have finally found work that aides that itch. In the past, we try to fill our time with busy stuff, cleaning, RV maintenance, side trips, trip planning once we leave, and as much fun as possible so the days tend to go quicker.

Keep busy and before you know it, these few weeks will be over and you will once again be back on the road.

Record low temperatures tonight ...21 degrees ! :o :( :o
We are sooo ready to leave. Just another 9 days !
11 days till we drive off this mountain.
But even without the COLD weather and the isolation, we would be ready to
move on. Isn't it what makes this lifestyle so attractive - the desire to get back on
the road and see something new ??

Hitch itch is one of the most contagious diseases I have ever known about. I got it at a very young age when I bought my first RV in 1964 and it has never been cured. DW and I both have a bad case of it at the moment because we have been here at our new winter home since July doing things we want done before we get back on the road.

I have found over the years that most any kind of travel eases the pains that itch causes and we have to go somewhere once in a while whether we take the RV or not. I think DW caught it from me as she never traveled much before we met, but now is ready for a trip most anytime.

The good part is that Hitch Itch is one of the only GOOD Diseases I know about, and very few people actually have any severe problems related to it. No doctors or prescriptions necessary to relieve the symptoms, and many times it does not cost much money to put it back in remission, just a few miles and days.

Happy RVing.

We have been at our winter job 3 weeks and are enjoying it, plus the added bonus of being within 1 hr of 2 of our daughters and our 3 grandsons, which allows us to spend lots of time with them. Even so, when I see an RV leaving the campground heading south to Florida I get a twinge of hitch itch. The plan is for us to be here until March so by then I am sure the twinge will be a real ache. As for 6 months being too long: we have worked for 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 5 months and 6 months - still get the hitch itch.

Aw yes, the dreaded hitch itch, we have it so bad right now but a looking forward for 4 days when it will be relieved.
We should of cured it earlier but we made a commitment for the length on stay.
After a two day drive to Pa to visit with family and friends we will take about 3 days to get to Fl.
We usually don't get the itch in Fl. as much because we want the weather to be warm when and wherever we go in the spring.
But usually it is getting to warm by then.
We do hope to get to Fl in Nov. so we can make sure that the A/C is working, we only used it twice this past summer, now the heater that is a different story.

Like a lot of retired full time RV'ers, we are sort of/kind of looking for that place in the USA where we'll put down roots again. We have workamped in many beautiful places, have appreciated these places tremendously, and have checked out Real Estate. Then, suddenly, the hitch itch hits, and we begin to plan for the next adventure. I guess we'll continue to travel until we can't travel any more, or when we grow up, or when we grow old (I'm 65, he's 69) :D

That is exactly what we have done for the last five years, looked, priced, checked, and rechecked. We just do not want any more snow, ice, hurricanes, tornadoes, or any other sort of bad weather. We found our paradise in SE Arizona where none of those things happen and the only time it gets cold is late at night, (when we are sleeping). Of course finding a deal on a house that just could not be turned down helped also.

We have our home base now, and our place to rock in the sun when we are too old, or physically can no longer travel. Of course the hitch itch is getting bad and I can feel a trip somewhere coming on just to ease it.

For anyone planning a home/retirement base now is a good time to be looking for houses as there are many foreclosed places that are really reasonable.

Happy RVing.

After 7 summers of working, we've always felt that even a whole summer season of 5 months would be too long for us. We have usually worked from early to mid-JUly until sometime in Sept and its always been long enough. Of course if one needed all the money possible that would make a difference. But since we are "officially retired" we are always ready to quit and relax.

We would suggest that "hitch itch" is a subcategory of the very disease that jj mentioned. We are guessing that there are many subcategories. Maybe it has mutated during the history of human kind. We have no idea what the larger genius would be called except maybe "THE ITCH."

But, we know "The Itch" has always existed for us in many forms.

Some variations that come to mind are: stationary itch, boredom itch, anchor itch, vacation itch, job itch and my DW's favorite,,, the shopping itch, etc... Well, maybe shopping itch is a whole other disease ! :o

When I was in the military I loved the non-war-time travel. I married a gal that loved to stay on the move, meeting new people and seeing new places. Job moves were every two years for the first 30 years were married and we now move several times a year! And this does not take into account our one to three day excursions.

I would say that we were afflicted at birth with "The Itch" as were many of our rving friends.

Benadryl Helps! ! !

Happy Trails,
RT

I think hitch itch includes a form of "the grass is greener ". We've been running back and forth between wintering in AZ and FL for 11 years. When we are in AZ we itch for the ocean beaches and Disney. When in FL we itch for desert hiking and 4-wheeling.
When on the job, within a couple weeks we itch to leave which makes our jobs seem to take forever. Having spent the summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we've acquired new itchs: chiggers! Gnats! We are itching (and scratching) to leave here November 1st.

I agree that 6 months is too long in one spot. We finished 6 months at Adventureland Amusement Park and were SO READY to get out of there. We enjoyed our stay, but 6 months is a long time. We enjoyed it so much though that we are going back in April.

We are currently in Jekyll Island, Georgia for a few days having a GREAT time being on the road again. We are headed back to Texas for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and then on to Arizona for the winter.

Love this life,
Joezilla

We survived the last bout of hitch itch. Thanks for all your input. We are on the road in between workamping jobs and enjoying our leisurely travels. If we put in 50 miles a day it's OK. If it's less all the better. You gotta love this lifestyle!!!

Happy travels,
GMC
